Language Exchange in Spain
Have you thought about a swap to improve your Spanish? No I am not suggesting you throw your car keys in the middle of your Spanish neighbour's lounge and exchange your Janet for a Maria. What I am suggesting is find some Spanish people on your urbanisation and arrange a language exchange.
Who wants to swap with me?
From my own experience, it seems that for every one British person who wants to learn Spanish, there are at least ten Spanish people who want to learn English. Of course, we have a need to learn Spanish because will live in Spain and although not necessary, knowing the language does make life easier.
On the other hand, most of the Spanish people who want to learn English need it for a specific purpose. It could be that they are students and learning English is part of their studies, they need it for work purposes or they have children and they want to be able to help them with their English homework. As need tends to motivate the learning of a language they will be mostly younger people as older age groups have less necessity.
How do I find someone?
Firstly, don't be shy and ask around. Perhaps, you could make a flyer and post it under the doors of all the Spanish people living on your urbanisation. As language lessons and courses are expensive, people will jump at the chance to have 'free' Spanish lessons in exchange for teaching you. Organise a small party with other like minded British who would like to exchange and invite your Spanish neighbours. You might find people naturally pair off.
Where can we meet?
Anywhere! In each others homes or somewhere neutral like a local bar. Have a couple of drinks and feel your fluency improve!
What do I do, do I need to prepare?
You might find that your levels are different so you will have to plan to suit each other accordingly. Depending on their level, start off with something general like a newspaper article to discuss and ask them to do the same for you in Spanish. Swap Shop
The possibilities are endless. You can swap magazines, books, DVDs, music CDs. Just use your imagination. Surf the net for EFL resources and play games such as scrabble and hangman. Make it fun as you will be less inhibited and learn more freely.
I can't recommend this method of language learning enough. It's free and it's a form of socialising with 'real' Spanish people, which unfortunately most British people living on the coasts don't get the opportunity to do. On the urbanisation where I live, in Manilva, it is really starting to take off with one lady doing up to four swaps per week!

The Anatomy of a Takeover November 15, 2008 by Matt Jones comment Many of you are a lot like me. Entrepreneurial. We’re constantly looking for opportunity, and when we see it, we often just naturally go for it. Some of us more than others, depending on our place in life, our risk tolerance, financial ability, and the other things on our plate, but all of us, to some degree, learn to spot opportunity and react. Such is the life of an entrepreneur.
You’ve decided that being a Real Estate Agent is your career path. Congratulations! How many of you wake up each day in hopes of not being successful, please raise your hands. WHAT PROSPECTING IS – AND ISN’T November 12, 2008 by Dirk Zeller comment Prospecting is one of the easiest but most misunderstood concepts in the field of sales. Sales trainers are always trying to sell their “prospecting-free systems” on worldwide speaking circuits by saying, basically, “You will never have to prospect again if you use my system.” And, because salespeople secretly don’t want to prospect, they readily buy into the too-good-to-be-true, no-prospecting philosophy.
Listing Inventory System is Critical to Your Success in Your Real Estate Business November 11, 2008 by Cheri Alguire comment Once a real estate agent has a property listed “for sale,” it is vital to create and utilize the three components of the Inventory System. The service component focuses on feedback, communication and providing proof of your worth/value to the property owners. The pricing component categorizes your inventory as homes “priced to sell” and homes “priced to produce lead

Advertising by the Numbers November 1, 2008 by Matt Jones comment As someone who spends a large part of my life training agents to succeed in this new age of real estate, I’m often amazed at the general lack of understanding on the topic of advertising in our industry. I’m simply talking about having a good work

Feel Like Quitting Real Estate? October 25, 2008 by Matt Jones comments (5) Everywhere you look the news is grim. Today there are record numbers of foreclosures. Huge inventories of new and existing homes are being reported by nearly every media outlet. The mortgage industry is in a state of chaos. It’s Different In My Market October 23, 2008 by John Alexandrov comment As I travel the country giving seminars on how to overcome prospecting and lead generation reluctance (see www.yourcalltosuccess.com), I hear a common theme from agents. Many agents believe that their market is different, that they are facing unique challenges and that selling real estate is easier or better “somewhere else.” The reality is any agent can be successful (regardless of what the “market” is doing) if they f
