History of the Spanish language in Spain
Spanish is, after Mandarin Chinese and English, the third most spoken language in the world, with an estimated 400.000.000 of native speakers throughout the planet. Its origins, however, are much more reduced, both geographically and numerically.
Together with other initially European languages such as Portuguese, French or Italian, the linguistic roots of Spanish make it a Romance language. This means that Latin, or more specifically, Vulgar Latin, constitutes its most important linguistic base.
The constant contact and mutual influence of the Latin basis with other linguistic traditions and cultures has led to the formation of the different Romance languages as we know them today. In the case of Spanish, there are, for example, characteristics that come from the Iberian and Celtic traditions.
There is also a great amount of Greek vocabulary that was first adopted by Latin speakers and then brought into Spanish. Words such as "escuela" (school) or "hu?rfano" (orphan) all belong to this tradition. And we should not forget the seven centuries of Arab domination of the peninsula. This has left, among other things, an important legacy of lexical elements that have been incorporated into the Spanish language. A surname you probably know which exemplifies this is "Almod?var".
Spanish is, especially in the bilingual territories of Spain, also known as castellano (Castilian), because of its origins in the region of Castilla. Castilla is situated in the north-central part of Spain, and it was once the neuralgic center of the Spanish empire that would take the Spanish language to more than twenty other countries.
The establishment of a linguistic unity of Spanish as a common language for the state of Spain was parallel to its territorial unity. This union was only possible after the Reconquest of the peninsula from the Arab settlers, at the end of the 15th century. The kingdom of Castilla, and also its linguistic variety, expanded to the practical totality of the Iberian Peninsula. After the marriage of Isabel I of Castilla and Fernando II of Arag?n, the Spanish state was born, and Castilian language and culture became its most dominant identity. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, through a series of linguistic evolutions and normalizing changes, the language of the Spanish state became what is nowadays known as Modern Spanish.
It is important to remember, however, that spoken Spanish is not identical in the different regions of the Spanish state. In fact, its pronunciation and lexical characteristics can vary to a very significant extent from one place to another. However, the maintenance of a unified, standard, version of the Spanish language and of its written form is guaranteed by the Real Academia de la Lengua Espa?ola. The Academia sets the rules to follow in order to speak and write in a way that is accepted by all the different Spanish speakers.

There are 2 main factors that come into play when looking to buy a new home in Boise. The first, getting the best possible deal you can. Secondly, finding a home that you truly love that meets your needs. Unfortunately the two doen’t always come together. I recently closed two transactions of sales of my listings that were sold by part-time agents. One of those agents also had a part-time broker who was nowhere to be found and she couldn’t even figure out how to complete the purchase agreement. I ended up writing her contract, using my home inspector, and my escrow officer to get the transaction closed in 11 days (before the buyer’s loan program expired). Which brings me to my point: Real estate is not my hobby. I’m a dedicated full-time
I recently helped one of my best repeat clients find and purchase a home for their son. Their chosen area was The Bench because their son will be attending BSU. To our mutual astonishment, we spent 5-6 full days looking at 10-12 homes a day before finding only one home that met their (very reasonable) criteria. We immediately made an offer and got it into escrow within a matter of hours. We looked at 60-70 homes ranging from $125,000 to $170,000 and all but one was in poor condition, p
The real estate profession is home to many slang terms, one of which is “upside down”. When someone is upside down in their home, it doesn’t mean they have to walk around standing on their hands. Instead, it means they owe more than they would realize if they sold their home. Unfortunately, many buyers who bought with little or no down payment in 2005-2007 have become quite familiar with this phenomenon. I dealt with three home inspections this week and two of them turned up moisture in the crawlspaces. Nearly all of our homes in the Boise real estate market are built on raised foundations with crawlspaces underneath. Very few homes in the Boise real estate market are built on slab foundations, but slab foundations sure would help eliminate our crawlspace moisture challenges. We have an underlying layer of clay in many parts of the Boise area, which acts as a barrier to groundwater percol

As we approach our Winter season, here are a few tips you may find helpful: Downspout Extensions I have dealt with three home inspections this week and two of them revealed water in crawlspaces. Both properties would have benefited from the installation of downspout extensions that would have directed water away from the foundations. If you have downspouts that are dumping rain water alongside your foundation, you could easily end up with water in your crawlspace. I recommend the 3-4′ f

I have had several people come up to me recently (knowing that I’m a real estate broker) and breathlessly ask “So . . . how are you doing?” It’s like they just can’t wait to say “You poor thing, you!” because I’m in real estate. When I (honestly) tell them I’m doing well, they look at me with disbelief. I’m fortunate to have a loyal base of past clients who refer their friends to me, and I have many clients who have completed several transactions with me. I have three closings betwee
